According to information Feliciano Florestano received from the previous owner of the painting Café (Portrait of Benito Mussolini?), a French immigrant in Brazil, the speaker could be Mussolini (1883-1945) portrayed during a political rally at a workers’ café. Should this identification be confirmed, the painting would be one of the earliest records – he was then about 30 – of the future dictator’s political career.
