The visibility of the small oil Saint Mark is jeopardized by its extremely precarious condition; nevertheless, this does not totally impede the viewer from distinguishing its fine quality. Its author was probably active in Florence, circa 1500. Hypothetically, the painting was a decorative illumination in a large manuscript or New Testament incunabulum, from which it was cut out.
