By Luciano Migliaccio
The painting Still Life with Plate, Vase, and Flowers is listed in the catalogue raisonné of Van Gogh’s works organized by De la Faille. According to the author, it was painted in Neunen, in the winter of 1884-1885, and shows the influence of 17th-century Dutch masters. Camesasca too is of this opinion (Bardi and Camesasca, 1979), although the authors of the 1970 edition of De la Faille’s catalogue did not accept Van Gogh’s authorship for this painting, followed by the majority of the critics. Lecaldano (1966, p. 90) suggested an in-depth critical review, excluding any categorical refutation.
