The tapestry The Great Fear is dated no later than 1954, the year when a major exhibition dedicated to the artist was held at the Masp. This show, the most comprehensive of his career, was opened by its curator, Germain Bazin, who was also director at the Louvre. This is also the date of the work’s entry in the Masp Collection.
